Anxious, dread, and panic. Three possible words to describe the course of this month. As I sat in class, listening to Mr. Pirtle discuss the rest of the semester’s workload, I felt my heartbeat quickening. At a glance, this month seemed daunting, seeing all the work I would have to put in order to secure interviews with professionals. Contrary to my previous beliefs, I have been preparing all semester for this, working on my networking skills and professionalism. Therefore, looking back at this month, three very different words described my month: Productive, Proactive, and Patient.
Productivity was directly related to the number of hours put into work, whether it was pertaining to contacting professionals, working on research assessments, or balancing a heavy workload from school, all while applying to colleges. I have remained proactive, sending thank you emails to Dr. Ahmad and Dr. Khan, ensuring I do my best to secure a second meeting. I also must remain proactive when following up with professionals, which I need to do with Dr. Waheed to finalize a date when I can shadow him during procedures. Finally, I need to have patience in every aspect of finding a mentor. I am putting the work in, and I need to trust the process in ISM having patience with each step I take.
